Eagle Rock

Trail Report

About twelve to fifteen of us from the Mitsubishi 4x4wire.com board decided it would be fun to do a winter run. We ended up with 2 Montero Sports, 2 Monteros, 1 Raider and a Jeep. Eagle Rock near Colorado Spring was chosen because it's lower in altitude, so there shouldn't be as much snow. Although it is rated a 7. Under normal dry conditions Eagle Rock trail would be a pretty easy trail with a few fun obstacles. But with a small amount of snow and a layer of ice underneath that snow, it made even the smallest hill a difficult obstacle. Cosport and I where at the end of the pack. Being at the end of the pack definitely made it more difficult I think. By the time the first four vehicles in are group had made it up each hill/obstacle, most of the snow was rubbed-off down to the ice. Of course the ice was at the most critical spots along the trail, where you really needed the traction. Needless to say there was a lot of slipping and sliding. Because of the steep trail going in with icy conditions, it was a good idea to go out a different way. When we got to the end of Eagle Rock trail, we decided to go back taking a part of Mt. baldy trail. Which that section of trail is pretty flat with no obstacles. All in all it was a great trip. There was no major mishaps to speak of only a few miner ones. With one Montero sliding off the trail into a ditch and me getting a small dent in my drivers side door from sliding into a tree.
