Jenny Creek

Trip Report

This was my first time setting up a 4 wheeling trip with some of the guys from colorado4x4.org. We all met at the Stage Stop at Rollinsville at 9:30 a.m. on Highway 119 on a cool but beautiful morning. We had five rigs going along for this trip. Otisdog (Jim) in his white 03 TJ Sport, Shoafer0 (Nate) in his mostly Stock 00 XJ, LJ in is older red CJ and Kodama in his Gun metal blue highly modified Jeep, and me in my 98 Montero Sport.

We decided to air down at the Stage Stop and then headed out by 10:00 a.m. We found the turn off for the trail to do the trail from the bottom to the top. This first section of trail is pretty much just a narrow dirt road. You will come upon a Y in the trail. Take the trail to the right. The first obstacle you will come to is the well known Old Parcel bridge. Be careful if you decide to maneuver over the bridge. It is by no means stable and can also be slippery if wet. You could easily slide off the bridge and flip over into the river if you don't pay attention, so have someone spot you on this part. The other option is the more challenging obstacle by going to the left of the bridge. If you attempt this way and you have a long wheel base vehicle I would recommend having at least 2 to 4 inches of lift, 33" tires and rock sliders. otherwise I wouldn't suggest going that route unless you don't care about your rocker panels getting munched. Right after the bridge on the other side of the river is where the most difficult part of the trail used to be. As of Aug-Sep 2003 the large rock has been moved nearly off the trail, changing this obstacle forever! From this point you will wind your way through this heavily forested narrow trail till you come to a short but steep section of trail approximately two SUV's long to go down. A short time after that you will come to this fairly rocky section that has a river running down it. This is a neat part of the trail. For a short time the river follows a part of the trail, but this part of the trail is pretty rough. There are some good size boulders in this section of trail. Undercarriage damage or rocker panels damage is a possibility here. Watch where you place your tires. Both LJ and myself hit some rocks pretty hard here. It didn't take us long and we came to the end of the trail by the lake.

Summary
This trail isn't very long, it's only about 4 miles long and probably not suitable for real wide vehicles like Hummers and the like, but a fun trail none the less. This is one of those trails you can make less difficult or more difficult depending on what lines you take along the trail, but the only real major obstacle is to the left of the bridge. If you don't do that obstacle to the left of the bridge I would rate this trail as a 5 or 6 out of 10. Now that the big rock is gone just after the bridge I would recommend doing this trail from the bottom to top. But doable either way.

How to get there...
Take Highway 119 to Rollinsville, at Rollinsville take the road to Rollins Pass heading west. The road to Rollins Pass is just west of Rollinsville, basically if you cross over 119 from Rollinsville. Once you reach the trail head for Rollins Pass, continue on Rollins Pass road for about 5 miles. Look for a turn off to the right. This is the trail for Jenny Creek. If you continue on Rollins Pass road you will get to a small lake. This is the end of Jenny Creek Trail . To start the trail form here, turn off the road to the right once you are on the dam part of the lake and follow the trail southeast.
