Middle St. Vrain Road

Trail Report

We kinda got off to a late start. We got to the trail head at about 11:00 am. It was myself and my wife as my copilot and our dog Mars on security detail. In our 98 Montero Sport with it's new 2" lift and Barb in her stock Jeep. This would be Barb's first 4 wheeling trip. We proceeded to get our vehicles ready for the trail. Barb took off her doors to her Jeep and I disconnected my rear sway bar. And then we were off!

The trail consists of lost of large 8" to 10" boulders scattering along the trail to negotiate through with the risk of undercarriage damage. With some fun obstacles along the way and several logs to go over that were put down to fill bogs and a couple of fun water crossings too. Middle St. Vrain Road is a great trail to show new 4 wheelers what their 4x4 can do.

The book that we had, said that stock vehicles can do this trail. But I am glad I had my new 2" lift and my new 9000 Rancho Shocks. The shocks definitely softened out the ride.( I had set the shocks on the 2 setting ). The 2" lift made the trail much easier to navigate and made it alot more fun too. Barb did a great job in here stock Jeep.

We met mostly small jeeps and your occasional assorted SUV on the trail. But we did see a Subaru Outback parked about a mile into the trail just before the trail got even more rough. We made it past the first two water crossings when we decided to just go a bit farther and then stop for lunch. It did take us longer then we thought to try and complete the trail. It was getting late. So after lunch we decided to go back down the way we came.

We only sustained a little damage to our vehicles on this trip. Barb had a small dent on her gas tank skidplate and I broke off one of our front mud flaps.

All in all it was a great 4 wheeling day.
